The purpose :
1. To help student understand how to communicate with computer
2. To improve students pronounciation to the words related to computer terms.
3. To help students understand common abbreviation (singkatan) used in English
Terms = Istilah-istilah
Abbreviation = Singkatan
Pc = personal computer
Cpu = central processing unit
Lcd = liquid crystal display
Pixel = picture element
Ibm = international business machine
Myob = Mind Your Own Bussiness
Meeting 2 computer system
1. Central processing unit
Brains of the computer, where all the programs and instructions are stored
2. Desktop computer
Another name for microcomputer. All it’s units can fit on a desk.
3. Documentation
Manual that tells the users how to use a system or software programs.
4. Laptop computer
Very small microcomputer that can run on a battery and is early to carried.
5. Microchip (microprocessor-chip)
Tiny pieces of silicon on which are printed the electronic circuits that make up the brains of a computer.
6. Personal computer
Another name for microcomputer. It can be used by just one person.
7. System
All the elements of an operating computer.
8. User – friendly
Computer system that are easy for individuals to use.

Meeting 4. Keyboard – basic keys
I. Terminology
1. Character
A letter, number of symbol/ punctuations
2. Cursor
Line of light that blinks on and off it keeps tack of where you are.
3. Cursor control keys
Arrow keys that move the cursor either on character left or right or a line up or down.
4. Function keys.
Keys designed to perform different functions it is indicated by the letter “f”
5. Dedicated function keys
Keys programmed to perform specific function , such as insert, delete, num lock, etc.
6. Numeric keypad
Group of keys on the right of keyboard, pad number, cursor control keys, plus, minus
7. Num lock
Key that turns the cursor control keys into keys to enter number.

II. Punctuation
1. . = full stop/dot/point
2. , = comma
3. : = colon
4. ; = semi colon
5. ? = question mark

9. “ = double quotation mark
10. ‘ = single quotation mark
11. () = parentheses
12. {} = braces
13. [] = brackets
14. / = slash/diagonal mark
15. \ = backslash

Work station
I. Terminology
1. Disk drive
Drive into which your insert floppy disk that carry programs you want to use or to save your work.
2. Floppy disk
Kind of storage media which made of vinyl in three sizes, 8 inch, 5 ¼ inch, and 1/3 inch .
3. Hard copy
It refers to the print out of your document
4. Keyboard
It is like typewriter but it has more keys.
5. Printer
It prints out the paper copies of your document.
6. Monitor
It looks like a TV screen on which the information you typed is displayed.
7. Soft copy
The image of information appears on the screen before it is printed out.
8. Work station
All the physical parts of computer in office, such as CPU, keyboard, monitor.

Meeting 5. Keyboard Special Keys
I. Terminology
1. Alt (alternate key)
The key that will perform different functions when pressed together with other key.
2. Asterisk
Symbol for multiplication
3. Backspace key
The key that moves back the cursor and also erases what has been typed.
4. Caps lock key
The key that turns small letters to capital letters but it doesn’t affect number and punctuations.
5. Diagonal
Used as a symbol/command for division
6. Enter (return ) key
The most important key on computer keyboard. It’s used to enter new lines spaces and carries out command
7. Esc (escape) key
The key usually used to stop a program/a command
8. PrtSc (print screen) key
The key that will print out what appears on the screen
9. Shift keys
Two keys that allow you to type capital letters, punctuations or symbols.
10. Space bar
Long key at the bottom of typewriter keyboard to put in spaces.
